  • WHAT WE DO

    Our Studio, ESHA YOGA, was founded in 2009 (originally under the name Yoga House) in Toronto, Canada in order to teach people YOGA to stay in shape, reduce stress and generally feel better in everyday life. Utilizing techniques from traditional yoga combined with physiotherapy, we offer a variety of approaches to achieve and maintain your optimal daily health. We also offer 5 mornings/week to practice Mysore Style Ashtanga Yoga.

    Whether you are seeking to learn traditional yoga, yoga to reduce back pain or simply want to reduce stress, we provide a friendly and healing environment to do so online, at our studio, or in your home.

    Ashtanga

    This most ancient style of yoga coordinates breathing, a focus point and strong physical movement. The benefits include improved mobilty, a better ability to focus and concentration as well as helping participants develop more balance in the many aspects of everyday life.

    The sequence starts with a vinyasa style movement with Sun Salutation A and Sun Salutation B.

     

    Our ashtanga classes are taught in the same tradition as Sharath Jois of the KPJAYI school in Mysore, India.

    Gentle Hatha

    This is a gentle entry-level yoga class for anybody in any condition. This class is especially effective for those with chronic conditions such as sciatica, scoliosis and arthritis.  It's also ideal for working with autoimmune diseases, boosting the immune system by maintaining general health and general flexibility.

     

    Among its many benefits, this class helps improve numerous aspects of your life including sleep, emotional/mental stress-processing time and calming the nervous system. Those who continue this practice regularly generally feel more relaxed and happy on a daily basis.

    Hatha Vinyasa

    Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by arranging postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. This is the yoga commonly referred to as “flow” yoga. The word 'Vinyasa' itself means to arrange in a special way in the right direction.

     

    This class is ideal for beginnner and advanved as each pose can be modified depending on your prefered comfort level.

     

    Benefits of Hatha Vinyasa:

     

    -The steady cycle of inhales and exhales provides you with a calming, mental focal point.

    -The continual movements, from one pose to another, gives you an added cardiovascular benefit creating internal heat.

    -Increased strength and flexibility – whether slow or fast-paced, Vinyasa classes are a great workout for your body.

    a bit about the teacher a bit about the teacher

    Add Donny Day has been practicing Hatha & Vinyasa yoga since 1993. His asana background includes experience in Hatha, Ashtanga, Yoga Therapy & Vinyasa. Donny currently practices & studies Ashtanga yoga daily. His teaching skills include Pranayama, Ayurveda, various forms of Tibetan, Yogic & Shamanic Meditation, Holistic Psychology and Yoga Therapy.
    Donny studied Ashtanga Yoga (at the AYCT - Ashtanga Yoga Center Toronto) under Dave Robson since 2018. He continues his studies remotely since he moved out of Toronto to the nearby city of Pickering

    In 2010 Donny met Swathi Iyengar in Hong Kong where he invited Swathi to Chengdu, China, to teach Yoga Workshops on Pranayama & Yoga Philosophy.
    He also studies Kalaripayattu (the fighting form of Yoga) under Pramod Prathrose and has studied 8-Step Mantis Style Kung Fu since 2008. Prior to 2019, he taught Yoga in India (Mysore, Winter 2018/2019), Thailand (Bangkok, winter 2018), Japan (2015-2018) & Rome/Italy (Winter/Spring 2019) - previous to that he resided in Chengdu, China for 6 years where he taught Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga (2007 - 2013).

    In 2012 Donny ventured to Pune, India, to refine a Yoga Sequence for the spine with Dr. Balakhar (Yoga & Spine Specialist) and taught spinal yoga therapy to students at Kaivalyadham (a government-funded yogic institution in India tasked with connecting science and Yoga starting in 1934). He returned to India 4 years later to study Ashtanga Yoga under Saraswathi Jois.

    Donny continues to practice Yoga & meditation daily as well as study Shamanism & Holistic Counselling under Gael Carter & Marilyn Keffer. Donny also currently writes about Yoga philosophy/holistic psychology and mental health with various colleagues.
